The Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery of the School of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializes in the aerodynamic layout design and development of UAVs, as well as the research on aero engines parts, utilizing both experimental and computational tools. It has formed a long-time partnership with MTU Aero Engines AG on the development of innovative thermodynamic cycles for commercial airliner engines, as well as several Hellenic Industries on the development of fixed-wing UAVs. LFMT has developed methodologies and sizing tools for aircraft and fixed-wing UAV design and performance assessment, both for conventional and innovative configurations. LFMT is charged with the coordination of the project, is responsible for the configuration layout and aerodynamic design of the RX-3, the aerodynamic and stability analysis, as well as for the ground & flight testing. The LFMT activities are supported by the Laboratory of Machine Elements and Machine Design (LMEMD), which has formed partnerships with some of the most renown vehicle design industries (ΜΑΝ Truck & Bus, Rheinmetall etc.) and is responsible for the internal layout, the structural analysis and the manufacturing drawings.
